Making Decisions

Hiking path in Hawaii

In order to really talk about how to know when and how we are making mistakes, we would have to talk about pre-destiny, the grand design, and the role of the Divine.

This story is about the simple, yet difficult, choices that each of us faces every day, and the process we go through to decide which path we want to take at any given moment.

It can be a choice that is as small as what brand of an appliance to purchase, to larger life decisions, like where to live, what career choice to make, or whether or not you want to marry someone. Making good decisions is a much sought-after skill, and making a bad decision is something that almost everyone is frightened about.

There are many people that find it extremely difficult just to make everyday decisions. They hem and haw, and go back and forth until the decision is made for them, perhaps forced by outer circumstances. Then there are people that make decisions and change their minds continuously, and some would say irrationally. Either way, people are afraid. They are afraid that a choice they make will lead them to danger or ruin. They are afraid that a choice they make will make them miss something that would have been better.

Everyone knows that if we are not willing to make decisions, our lives will remain mostly the same. We cannot know change by intention; we can only know change by what life brings us and our reaction to that.

So, what are the ways we learn to overcome our fears and make sound decisions?

First, making good choices involves a combination of reason and intuition. Of course, you can refer to research, or trusted friends and family to help you. You can go through the benefits if you made the correct decision and what the cost to you would be if you make a wrong decision or no decision at all.

Second, being able to steadily move forward in life requires a certain amount of trust. That trust could be in yourself and your ability to make good choices, or in life; knowing that you will survive, no matter what.

Once your decision is made, it is just as important to not continuously question it. You can not know if you are in the right place and made the right choice unless you take it on completely. Questioning means that you are never really allowing yourself to even know whether or not it was right. Again, if the decision you make does not work, trust that you will find your way to the next destination.

I love you!
