Sivan explains the process of activating surrender and provides practices to help you start trusting your life.
On: Surrender

In one of my favorite set of books as a teen, the stories always included a part where the main character was faced with the challenge of ‘jumping into the abyss’.
It was a powerful metaphor for permanently leaving behind an old unwanted self. Clearly, I mentally understood the wisdom of this. At the same time, I was controlled by my insane attachment to the problems, worries, and conflicts that I called ‘me’. Whenever they became threatened in any way, I immediately fell back within the cocoon of my own making.
Contemplate these words: Trust, Surrender, Love, Humbleness, Yes…
Just contemplate!

I started smoking at 11 years old. First it was just curiosity, or wanting to be like the cool older kids. Then it began to seem like something I really wanted to do. I can even remember the moment that I decided to actually be a smoker. I was 16 years old.
The moment of true surrender, the moment where all of the straining, all of the resistance, all of the fighting stops, the soul blooms.

Surrender is a word that is used often in spiritual teachings. It is one of the most potent concepts and goals of a spiritual path – and yet, it is also one of the most misinterpreted.

Like the movie ‘Yes Man’, on the spiritual path we talk a lot about saying ‘Yes!’ So, today, I thought I would talk about saying ‘No!’
When I was young, I had a very good friend who I worked with. She was a slight bit younger, but in certain ways wiser. Often, we talked about our boyfriends, and one day, she looked at me with the type of look that you have when suddenly you understand something you couldn’t figure out before. It was a combination of surprise and conviction. She practically shouted, “Now I know what your problem is with your boyfriend! You don’t know how to say NO!”

Magic happens when one surrenders totally to the moment they are in.
